Common end a memorable week in style!

Little Common Football Club completed a historic week by clinching the Southern Combination Football League Division One title with an 8-0 victory over Billingshurst on Saturday.

Having secured the Division One Challenge Cup on Wednesday evening, the Commoners went into the match knowing that only a six goal defeat could prevent them from capping a memorable season with a league and cup double.

The match had a lively start with both teams going close to scoring in the opening minutes, first Lewis Hole saw an effort cleared off the line before Nick Tilley headed against the post for the visitors. However, it was player-manager Russell Eldridge who gave Common the lead in the 11th minute before a Hole hatrick had all but sealed the points by half time. It is fair to say that the visitors were showing signs of a tough schedule of four games in seven days and the Commoners added a further four goals in the second half through Eldridge, Paul Feakins, Stuart Collier and Wes Tate.

Common were presented with the Division One cup at the conclusion of the match and went on to enjoy a celebratory evening.

Congratulations and well done to manager Russell Eldridge, his assistants Wes Tate and Chris Eldridge and all the players for a fantastic season and a superb achievement.

Common will line up in the Premier Division next season for the first time in the club's history.
