Liverpool top Tier 1! Should have gone to Specsavers......

Ronnie Johnson11 Oct - 11:55

Liverpool bring 3 points home from Kent in Tier 1 opening game!

Liverpool opened up their Tier 1 season away to newly promoted Kent United. After a tough pre -season the squad had had a ten hour plus round journey with players missing too.

Both teams had chances in the first few minutes of a close and cagey game. But it was the hosts that took a lead in the eighth minute through Colin Romero hitting a low shot in off the post.

Just twenty seconds later Liverpool were level. A diagonal ball from Kenna Ngoma wide to Matty Best whose cross found Ramin Babaei unmarked for a close range header to equalise for Liverpool.

Then in the eleventh minute Liverpool took the lead, capitalising on a Kent mistake. From the kick in Domingos Pires back-heeled the ball and nobody was there. Ramin and Jorge broke fast on a 2v1. Ramin nudged the ball wide past the defender to Jorge, who returned the pass for Ramin to slide in for his second goal.

Seconds later Domingos Pires made amends for his mistake slotting in a close range equaliser, to make it 2-2. Game remained close as both teams tried to take the lead as the half time break loomed.

Then with four minutes left a Kent attack broke down and Liverpool countered. A nice touch from Kenna Ngoma, then Elliot Millar drove forward with the ball. A well timed pass to the right saw Jorge find the roof of the net to put Liverpool 3-2 up.

A minute later, a diagonal ball from Matty Best found Harrison Jackson, who was quickly surrounded by two defenders and still managed to prod the ball to Jorge who drove forward and smashed it past Dan Paull in the Kent goal to give Liverpool a 4-2 HT lead.

Two minutes into the second half, saw a neat 1-2 with Ramin, put Harrison through on goal. He was fouled just on the edge of the area, the Kent defender escaping with a booking, gave Liverpool a free kick on the edge of the area. Harrison stepped up and the wall parted allowing his shot through into the net, to make it 5-2 Liverpool.

The game remained close with no more goals for ten minutes. Then with eight minutes left, Kent scored from a free kick to make it 5-3, to set up a tense finale. With three minutes remaining Kent were on five fouls. Jorge was then fouled in his own area to give Liverpool a ten metre penalty. Harrison stepped up....keeper saves...and concedes the corner.

From the corner, one of those did he mean it moments! Jorge takes the corner and Ramin from his own half chips the ball into the net for his hat-trick to seal the win. FT Kent 3 - 6 Liverpool. Fantastic effort from the lads on their Tier 1 debut!
