A blend of first and reserve team players were selected for the second friendly of the season and were eager to improve on the performance at Brecon Corries earlier on in the week. It must have been a proud moment for the Nicholls family as brothers, Robbie, Shaun and Daryl all started the game in midfield. Presteigne who comprised of the majority of last season’s reserve side will play in Spar League One next season.
The first half was very much one way traffic as Llandrindod did most of the attacking and controlled the play heading up the slope. First blood came from a quickly taken free kick halfway inside the Presteigne half. Robbie Nicholls played a short pass to Will Green who from the left hand side dispatched a floating cross to the back post, which evaded the keeper and nestled itself into the back of the net.
This was shortly followed by a good work down the right between Robbie Nicholls and Huey Lewis. After a trademark overlapping run, Huey cut inside and played in unmarked defensive midfielder, Shaun Nicholls, who was starting his first game after a lengthy lay off with knee cartilage injury who fired an unstoppable 25 yard shot into the right hand corner of the goal.
Despite the rapid 2-0 advantage, Llandrindod continued to attack with precision and pace. Not to be outdone by his older brother, young Daryl Nicholls then unleashed an equally powerful long range shot which rattled the cross bar. The rebound was calmly controlled by Chris Davies despite the attention of a number of Presteigne defenders and he fired in a low volley to make it 3-0 within the first half hour.
Presteigne looked shell shocked and their day did not get any better when Ritchie Wayne played in strike partner Jonny Williams, who coolly nut-megged a Presteigne defender before guiding a left foot shot into the left hand corner. Presteigne chances were few and far between in the first half, the nearest they came to a goal was a header from a corner which was very well saved by stand in keeper Carl Tabberer at his near post.
Changes were made by both teams at half time and Presteigne started the second half with much more purpose and pulled two goals back. The first, a free kick from Ryan Stokes on the edge of the box after Miff had pulled down a Presteigne striker and the second a header from one of the strikers after a good run and cross from Jack Bowen. Llandrindod still continued to play good football and create chances but all of the damage had been done in the first half.
