A strong Cae maen Giants Select XV defeated the llanelli Warriors at Peoples' Park over the weekend.

As part of cae Maen's Autumn fair (which raised over £500 for the home) a select XV played the Llanelli Warriors on the adjacent Peoples park. Suprisingly it was the Giants who looked more cohesive against a Warriors side which took a long time to get going.

Cae Maen started strongly and kept the Warriors pegged back deep in their own half throughout the first half. Although the Warriors scramble defence went well they could not get themselves up field and in the end they did well to hold out for so long. It took some 20 minutes but eventually Osprey accadmey product Dean Williams, Matthre Symes, Harri Aston and Luke Parker all crossed for the Giants while the Warriors struggled to get any cohesion.

It was not all bad for the Warriors though; Youssef El Tawab and Gareth Ladd made fine debuts and Darren Pollitt doing well in the line outs. They struggled to get any rhythym though and under pressure passes just didn't seem to stick.

The Warriors (aided by some poor kicking options from the giants) looked far better after the break. Luke Jenkins was the standout attacker and got two tries for his efforts but Graham Mosser, Colin Talcon, Alan Taylor and Ryan Morgan all went well. Simon Jenbkins scored a well worked try on the blind side and the Warriors were far more competative. They might have run the giants closer but Craig James intercepted during one promising move and scorched away to score whilst the strong running of former Llanelli player Mervin Phillips also caused them problems. Lee Rowlands also got a try for the home team aginst the general run of play.

Whilst the likes of Rhydian Willaims and Richard Evans never gave up their efforts were matched by Luke Rees and Aled Richards for the Giants who were well deserved winners.

The Warriors will now have to regroup before their big match against 5th Army Medical on September 23rd at New Dock Stars.
