Caemaen Giant 36 Llanelli Warriors 30
The Warriors kicked off their season with an exciting match against the Caemaen Giants in Burry Port recently. The high scoring encounter may have been an enjoyable run out to blow away the cobwebs but they will be disappointed with the result.
Missing several stalwarts and weakened by some dual players lining up against them, the Warriors were still surprised to concede the 1st score as Harri Aston got over. The scoreline did not reflect the effort the Warriors put into defence with Richard Evans earning Man of the Match for his tackling.
The Warriors hit back to even things out but couldn’t get in front. A neat try for Karl Davies and Darren Pollit getting over direct from a lineout were cancelled out by Craig James and Matt Symes for the Giants.
The second half was more of the same, a bulked up Lee Jones crowned an impressive return and move to the pack with a try and Ronan Lewis got another despite suspicions of a fumble. Dai Jones made good hard yards throughout and Mark Lewis finished off a lovely passage of play that saw the ball swept back and fore across the field. Unfortunately Mosser, although he played well through an injury, didn’t have his kicking boots on whilst for the Giants Steffan Roberts and Jamie Evans improved tries by Evans, Jacob McDonald and Luke Rees. Those extra proved the difference meaning that the Warriors last try through youngster Lewis Pickett was purely a consolation.
There were plenty of positives for the Warriors, Aaron Slaughters debut and some hard battling from Alun Stephens but the Giants emerged victorious.
