The final game of the Mixed Ability World Tournament saw two unbeaten sides battle out for 5th place and with a dream start the Clan proved victors.

Old foes the Clan and the Warriors had both missed out on quarter final spots after drawing a pool game and so, more than 5th place both teams were hoping to make it through the tournament undefeated.
The Clan, a national side sanctioned by the Scottish Rugby Union, had won the previous encounter between the sides and the rigors of playing a 4th game in 3 days was showing across the two squads.
Having scored first in all their previous matches the Warriors suffered a nightmare start and the Clan swarmed into an early lead. From the kick off big center Owen Gemmell scored. The Clan were strong in midfield and the pressure there was leaving to much for David Carpenter to do on the wing. Within 10 minutes Aron Miller had followed over the try line with the Warriors hardly getting into the game.
In a slow process the Warriors managed to claw one back before the break, Dylan Harris doing well to get over in the corner. Although the game was far more even now, the Scots scored next with veteran Ivor Frator claiming his 3rd try of the tournament. The Scots continued to push and Harris showed some great skill and aptitude in defense but the Clan’s Argentine Ignacio Luna Borrás showing his fast feet to score and James’ conversion setting them at 24 7 ahead with time ricking away. The Warriors kept up their efforts though with player coach Gwilym Lewis finding his way through several bodies and as time ran out strong running Liam Tobias powered over. Unfortunately that was the last play of the game and although Darren Pollitt’s conversion narrowed the final margin to just three points the Warriors had suffered their first loss.
The game left them with a better record that the sides that drew for third and similar to that of the other leading teams and in that sense unlucky to finish in 6th position. However the experience is bound to help the team as they prepare to start their 20th anniversary season proper.
