The Warriors kicked off their 20th anniversary with an impressive performance to retain the Origin Cup.

The Warriors kicked off their season by retaining the Origin Cup in an entertaining game against Burry Port.
Now celebrating their 20th anniversary, the Warriors had an impressive turnout and were able to field a strong team whilst the hosts were forced to make several changes after a tough league match the day before.
With both sides now based at Burry Port there was a lot of familiarity between the teams which meant plenty of personal rivalries and an enjoyable game.

It was obvious from the off that it was going to be an open game with both sides showing a lot of ambition. Long passages of play from both sides looked sure to result in tries but for some excellent last ditch scramble defence. Ryan Morgan on the Warriors wing put in an excellent tackle on his strong running opponent Dai Carpenter, whilst Alun Stephens helped keep the Burry Port line intact with some big hits.

The action was fairly constant from end to end and once one try was scored they came at regular intervals. The home side took the lead through the elusive Joshua Marshall, improved by Tony Whittaker but it was misleading. Despite the efforts of Dil Evans and Gary James, the game swung the Warriors way.

It looked as though Ben Winstanley had got them on the way but influential referee Jonathan Kerr in fact awarded the first of two penalty tries. Dylan Harris’ dancing feet got him over the line, Liam Tobias got one and made another for Captain Andrew Davies and debutant Tom Hall stormed over but it was super sub Matthew Symes who shone brightest crossing three times. With Simon Jenkins (twice), Paul Davies and Andrew Davies adding conversions the Warriors racked up a big score.
For the home team Tom Allom got the pick of the home scores following a fine break and Craig James also crossed. Despite the defeat, there were some impressive performances from Ben Kitson and Simon Day whilst the Warriors were very impressed with debutant David Haines.

A cracking game of rugby then, and an early trophy for the Warriors to celebrate their 20th anniversary. The cup was presented by former Taranaki and Llanelli Warriors player Ian Marshall who selected Tom as Man Of The Match.
