Warriors edge free flowing match to finally claim a win.

Llanelli Warriors recorded their 1st win of the season in an enjoyable match at Furnace. Furnace used the opportunity to experiment with their line up whilst the Warriors were able to introduce debutants Luke Little and Mike Coughlin into an otherwise experienced side.

The dry weather suited the running styles of both teams and so the match was played at a fast pace with lots of risks taken and plenty of skill on show.

A superb performance at lineouts from Andrew Davies gave the Warriors an edge in terms of quality possession and this helped them onto the front foot from which they were able to exert early pressure. After some general sizing up from both sides, Warriors flanker Nathan Lawson broke the deadlock when he drove over from a quickly taken penalty. Soon after a driving lineout was initially foiled by Furnace but Davies used his long frame to more good effect, stretching over for a score to give the Warriors an strong early lead.

Furnace started to put some neat moves together with Rhydian Figoni showing some lovely slight of hand as they got going. Several moves stretched the Warriors defence and eventually it was centre James Owen who found the snapping point, striding over as the Warriors ran out of defenders.

The Warriors rode their luck to stop further scores but held on to lead 10-5 at the break.

Furnace introduced some youngsters in the second half and the fresh legs helped continue the fast pace. Dyfan Watkins got a deserved score for a dynamic performance but impressive Captain Dai Haines scored from a trademark burst to maintain the Warriors advantage.

There was little to chose between the sides Ben Phillips trying hard for Furnace whilst Will Browne did well for the Warriors, finding his targets at the lineout and running hard. A period of pressure from the home team saw Owens again crossing despite the attention of Ben Kitson and they threatened to ad to that several times. Their ambition aided their downfall in the end when they were caught trying to run on their own line, a strong tackle from Dion Mitchell-Lewis forced a loose ball and presented Jamie Evans with the simplest of tries.

The last word went to Warriors man of the match Rhydian Williams. The big lock had been putting himself about all game and kicked two conversions before he finished off a late move that effectively sealed the game for the visitors.

Both sides will have been pleased with the performance, but it was the Warriors who were finally able to register a win.
