The Lewi Cup changed hands for the first time when Burry Port edged this exciting encounter.

The ideal conditions at Burry Port facilitated some very entertaining rugby. The match contested both the Lewis Jones Memorial Cup and the Origin Cup so there was plenty at stake.

Burry Port took the opportunity to try some different combinations so it was no surprise the Warriors started more cohesively and Thomas Ashour started a fine game with a well taken try.

From there on both sides attacked with abandon. The scores came thick and fast as play went from end to end in a largely unstructured match. Burry Port tended to have the upper hand throughout with the Warriors forwards looking uncharacteristically pedestrian.
Dai Haines did score off the back of a scrum but they were second best at rucks throughout and the defensive organisation wasn't what it has been in recent weeks.

It was something of a patched up Warrior side and their two best players were out of position, Nathan Lawson handled the move to scrum half with aplomb, even if his presence was missed in the pack and moving from wing forwards to wing, James Duke had a fantastic match. He scored three tries and was busy throughout causing the Blacks defence no end of trouble.

Inaccurate kicking kept the score closer than it should have been and Burry Port were full value for the win. The hard work of grafters like Steve Lewis and Paul Silva paid off. Declan Jordan and Beans scored the pick of their tries which came from across the park with wing Simon Day claiming an impressive brace.

It was a full team performance that saw them secure their first (and second) silverware of the season.

The Lewi Cup was presented by Lewis' brother Tom and will be defended next week by Burry Port Youth against Llanelli Wanderers.
The 2nd leg of the Origin Cup will be contested on New Year's Eve.
