For the 2nd game the Warriors started slowly and conceded some early scores. Some strong forward work put pressure on and forced a poor clearance kick with Jac Catterson ran straight back all the way to the line. More strong arm stuff up front brought a try for prop Kaminski and it was only desperate defending that prevented further scores in what was at this point one way traffic.
A yellow card for a spear tackle gave the Warriors some momentum and some good movement put speedy scrum half Craig James in just enough space on half way to make the line. It was short respite as Catterson got a second before the break but the game was at least settling down and the Warriors were putting some structure together. They again weren’t helped by a miss firing line out though Lloyd Crawley improvised well to provide some ball.
The second half began like the first with Abercrave on full out attack. Luke Pearce and Dan Grinter did their best to hault the momentum but it was tough going and tries came for the home team through Cellan Davies Rhys Stoneman and Kieran Roberts. Inevitably Abercrave relaxed somewhat whilst the Warriors, rather than going into their shells redoubled their efforts. Fly half Jamie Evans kept the defence honest with some strong running. He scored two tries and made another for flying wing Nick Dcruz.
The fianl quarter was even, both sides looking to play from anywhere and move the ball, the Warriors winning over some of the crowd with their efforts.
A decent effort from the Warriors then with James Anthony and Simon Day doing well in difficult circumstances, but the spoils to Abercrave who proved excellent hosts.

A beautiful sunny afternoon and another Warriors Wagon trail – this time up the Swansea Valley, thanks to all those that drove. Eventually we actually had a decent sized squad in place and kicked off an action packed game. Memorable incidents abounded with the opposition fly half going off injured after the 1st play, Gareth Ladd needing a pwp after 10 minutes (Seemed to help his game though), possibly after being spear tackled and there were plenty of handbags.
Lineouts were more random than the lottery with neither Big Rhyd or Lloydipop understanding what “VERY VERY back of the line meant”, Tom missing calls, Darren missing the ball and 2 crap throwers. Credit to the backline where all 9 players had their moments.
Quote of the day was from new boy James, asked about an early big hit he had suffered - “They absolutely smashed me! And I loved it!!!”
Congratulations on Lloydipop on winning the drink off for dick of the day (standing in for Jamie - obviously).
Nice to see Darren Carew and Mrs.
Top evening all round!
We also got the basis for the Warriors horror movie:
“A Warrior Werewolf in Brecon”
The last to leave 5 rugby players pile into a car. They laugh at the full moon and are full of good spirits talking about the game they had just played. They failed to notice the wrong turn (despite the big BRECON BEACONS PARK sign) they took until they had travelled several miles of uninhabited mountain, even ignoring the petrol light coming on, when they finally realised their mistake none could get signal on their phones to find the way home… when they get to the mysteriously semi closed petrol station (Tecsos card only) none of the cards will be accepted… maybe you had to be there but it was a very relived car to finally make it back to Llanelli just before midnight!
FINALLY:
Here is the view from Aber:
In a first for Abercrave Baa baas we entertained Llanelli Warriors on a bank holiday Friday evening. The Warriors are a side that represents all that’s great about rugby a team that is represented by a majority of players who have difficulties or disabilities and still take on teams much less inclusive and ask for no quarter to be given or taken. Big Lloyd Crawley has represented both sides with some aplomb this season and was instrumental in arranging this fixture. Whilst the Warriors had a large squad as usual our 25 names on what’s app had been whittled down by the warm weather and the call of the bar to 18 players. Big Bull was the first one to add to my team selection headaches by telling me he had agreed with the emperor that he was to play center and take all the kicks!!! This meant I had to get someone out of the back line or I was going to have to start in the forwards. I looked for volunteers but only young Callum Joyner in only his second senior game volunteered to play in the back row and went on to have a fine game there too. Straight from ko Bull was in action with the first tackle and his last as he pulled his hamstring making it!!!! 20 seconds in and we had to make our first substitution on came Matthew Jones who had only just finally decided to get changed. The Warriors tried to clear their lines but kicked straight to Jac Catterson making his senior debut, now passport control may have stopped him from getting to Belgium but the Warriors couldn’t stop him as he set off on a mazy run leaving defenders in his wake before sprinting under the posts for the first try. Patryk Kaminski was the next to have a rumble bumping off several would be tacklers in a run that wasn’t quite in keeping with the spirit of the game. He also then burrowed over the line after several bouts of driving mauls or forwards with white line fever tried to pile over. If we thought a rout was on the cards we were in for a rude awakening as the Warriors fought back. Things even got a bit naughty as Dan and Tom Griff threw their toys out of their pram the latter after a classic trip by Lloyd Crawley sent him beak first into the turf. Kieran Roberts was next in the naughty seat after a tackle adjudged by the ref to be close enough to a spear tackle to earn him a yellow card. Warriors cashed in and when their winger was in space he scorched the turf on an unstoppable run down the touch line for their opening try. They even had time for their impressive 13 to ask the ref if he could leave the field for a shit. (Probably had a few pints in the afternoon himself) We did finish the half strongly when Jac crossed for his second try another beauty with defenders strewn along his route to the try line.
HT 17-5 to the Baa baas
The break at ht did us the world of good and we came out all guns blazing probably because Chris Morgan went off and big Lloyd swapped sides. Cellan Davies Rhys Stoneman and Kieran crossed for try’s with the latter even engaging in some showboating after appearing to be running in treacle for the last 25 meters. If we thought it was game over the Warriors had other ideas and it all started when I came on just before Kieran’s try, straight after that the winger came straight at me and I accidentally and too my shame took him a bit high. The ref saw there was no malice in it and gave me our second yellow and off the Warriors went on a purple patch. They run in 3 try’s and even added another after I came back on. Steffan Edwards steadied the ship showing he has pace to match his reffing ability as he went over for a stabilizing try. Captain for the day Tom Griff steadied it further with another try with the conversion drop goaled from the touch line by Kieran. Still the Warriors were not done and they fittingly ended proceedings with another try to make the final score Abercrave 48 Warriors 34. Great game of rugby decent crowd and played for the most part in a competitive but friendly spirit. Hopefully this will now be a regular fixture and we can return the courtesy of a game to the Warriors and pay them. Visit at their Burry Port base next season.
My man of the match would be the ? for his two try’s and some fine running, just beating off the challenges of Steff, Kieran and Pepsi. Twat was myself for a most unsportsmanlike tackle just beating off the challenge of Kieran for his yellow and showboating.
Good to see some boys back Alun Balls and Chris moggs holding up the scrum and Liam making a fine debut in the second row and not forgetting the return of the beard Iwan Jones in the center. Nice to have a win boys and keep your eyes peeled for details of at least one more game.
Ups Ze Aber and many thanks and admiration to the Warriors. Steffan Edwards and Captain Tom Griff scored tries for Aber, one a gifted interception as the Warriors tried too hard but the Warriors also had their moments. Centre Ben Win lost the ball with the line at his mercy but full back Dan John claimed a brace of late scores and with a conversion each from Williams and Pollitt completed their scoring.
