The Llanelli Warriors travelled into the heart of Aberavon for this match against the newly formed Port Talbot Panthers.
The teams had met at the Panthers launch festival, drawing 15 all and this was the Panthers 2nd full match.
Despite the heavy rain the pitch at Aberavon Quins was in good shape for what turned out to be a very entertaining encounter.
The Warriors welcomed Craig Evans into the front row for his debut and Huw Jenkins made his 50th appearance.
Both sides looked to play positive rugby throughout the match with some fine skills on display.
After some early probing, the Warriors scored a fine try moving the ball across the back line, impressive wing James Anthony breaking through and then finding flanker Adam Fussell on his inside to beat the cover.
The Panthers retaliated when the capitalised on a kick through and then another soon after saw them leading, slightly against the run of play.
Another kick and chase saw them camped on the Warriors line and it could easily have been a third try but for resolute defence. Twice the Warriors held the ball up over the line and eventually a knock on allowed the visitors to clear the pressure.
The Warriors were more clinical, working the blind side of a scrum, winger Simon Day scored and so it was tight at half time.
The game had plenty of physicality with a real battle up front. The Warriors held their shape well but a couple of missed tackles saw the Panthers sweep through and score again. Fussell and Day got further tries but back came the Panthers again.
The Panthers spirit was personified by Justin Martin who got stuck in right to the end.
A try from veteran Lee Rowlands put the Warriors 2 tries up with just 10 minutes to go, but it was obvious that it was the sort of frantic game that wasn’t over.
Despite some strong defence with second debutant Chris Davies and Johnathon Kearney prominent the Panthers forced their way over.
Three minutes left on the clock as the Warriors kicked off the Panthers strong running immediately took them back up field. Again held up over the line, they scored from the resulting scrum but missed the conversion that would have given them the lead.
The Warriors had less than a minute to rescue the result but although the regained possession, a handling error put paid to that an incredibly the result was a 31 all draw.
The two clubs will be looking forward to the rematch at Burry Port on November 17th - the Panthers 1st ever away trip.

So a 1st full game against the Panthers, a bit earlier in the season than planned as the Dragons pulled out and presented us with an opportunity.
Lift share worked well (on the way up anyway) with most of the Warriors only slightly late and only the Daymobile really late (lost).
The Panthers provided stern opposition and no doubt both teams will be disappointed not to claim the win. Both sides had players knock on with the line at their mercy, but only Milgi got a kick in the balls.
Coaches were pleased with the Warriors shape but a couple of missed tackles proved crucial in a tight game. Line outs were good and chasing was better than last time out.
Great to see Flash finally get to 50 matches and great to welcome two new Warriors in Craig & Chris.
A good day for both clubs we look forward to the rematch
