Warriors poor run of results continued at Cardiff as they went down to the Chiefs

A disappointing performance from the Warriors who were well beaten in the bright Cardiff sunshine.

The Warriors travelled to Cardiff, optimistic that recent improvements would see them finally get a win. It wasn't to be however, with another hard day for the Llanelli team.

Initially it boded well, defence looked solid and the teams seemed well matched. The deadlock was broken with the Warriors attacking with intent, a pass not quite going to hand was seized on by the Chiefs and they scorched away, slightly again the run of play. They scored a second soon after which was well crafted and based on the speed of their centres, which proved a problem for the Warriors all afternoon.

Neither score was improved and so it was 10-0 at the break.

After the break the Chiefs consistently had the edge. Despite the work of Shaun Allen and Darren Pollitt, the Warriors suffered several turn overs which prevented them building any momentum and kept the home team on the front foot.

Playing down the slope the Chiefs scored again as they dominated the game. The Warriors had their moments, Simon Day almost escaping down the wing, but it was few and far between. There was a glimmer of hope when lively Mathew Hinder gathered a loose ball, escaped his man and strove over, for a well taken score. The Chiefs scored quickly to eradicate that hope as time kicked on and when the Warrior rushed the next kick off, the Chiefs hammered in the final nail.

There were some individual performances of note for the Warriors but the challenge for them will be to put these together into a cohesive performance.

Warriors: Dan John, Cain Rodwell (Simon Day), Johnathan Kearnery (Mathew Hinder), Adam Fussell, James Anthony, Nathan Murphy, Gwilym Lewis, Shaun Allen (Richard Evans, Tony Whittaker, Stefan Marshall), Shean Saunders (Dan Grinter, Tom Davies), Luke Pearse (Dai Haines), Lloyd Crawley , Matthew Miller, Chris Davies, Tomos Hall, Ashley Lewis

The Chiefs posted the following:

For our 3rd home game of the season as we welcomed the Llanelli Warriors to the Bishops of Llandaff RFC!
It would be our 2nd meeting of the season with the Warriors and after our Mixed Ability Classic put on away, We looked to put on another classic for all the spectators!
And it classic it would be! With both sides being defensively sound but the lads would find the smallest of gaps in the defense of the Warriors leading to a 29-07 Win for the Chiefs!
Tries would come from Daf (Debut), Ifan, Tom, Marcus & Rees (Debut)! With conversions coming from Leon & Geraint!
We would like to thank the Warriors for coming down, we can't wait for our next game!
We would also hold a minute silence on Remembrance Sunday for all that sacrificed their lives, we dedicate this game to them. Les We Forget.

The Chiefs produced an online program which you can access here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1gGyknygpV6ZIvfS5Xp2jY9RPTVpSLdCW/view?fbclid=IwAR1a4prXQnNJR9QKUGHtdP7UnAWOR5dCbE4ObQW7vwKOYuraXwbNa55zOi0

A frustrating day on the field but another good day out for the Warriors. The main talking point before the match was speculation around who would be Dick of the Day. Nathan Murphy made an early play by being late for the bus and then spent the journey to Cardiff trying to find other possible nominations. Fussell almost helped him out in the changing rooms, Gwilym asking for heat rub for tight hamstrings, Fussy suggested Vix vapour. It then swung towards Luke P-RS who turned up in a Fiji shirt.
During the game though Nathan unequivocally secured the title, taking a quick restart from the wrong line, 10 meters behind his players and with several people not ready, just to make sure, he over hit it and the Chiefs gently strolled in for their 5th try. There must be a special mention though for Tony Whittaker whose big come back lasted 2 minutes before a bump on the nose and Tom Ed and Dan Bryant who watched but didn't have kit to play.

Elsewhere Tom Hall managed to get a proper injury for once (but is well on the mend) and Dan John secured Man of the Match with a busy afternoon at full back. Mentions also to Ashley Lewis who did well considering he only got into the team after a 3:30am text the night before.

Back in the clubhouse, Milgi stepped into Servin's shoes by wearing the costume P-RS had brought, all for the small fee of £10. Some late tickets were snapped up by 7 of the group and so most people went to watch the Wales match (rather than watch Milgi's baby). Special mention to Trev for his speed wall through Sophia Gardens (He's not 21 anymore you know). An interesting match for Wales, a pint in Fuel and the long bus home to Llanelli with a couple of tunes - it wasn't all bad!
