Despite the cold weather, there was as ever a good turn out for the Anniversary Cup, a staple of both club's calendars.
The Warriors seemed to have warmed up first, some sharp movements at the start of the game and a strong run from Adam Fussell saw him scoring after 5 minutes, improved by Anthony Higgins. Buoyed with this early success, the Warriors again put the pressure on and Nathan Baker scored out wide (the conversion a little too much for Tony Whittaker).
Cefneithin raised their game and gained good momentum, leading to their 1st score and they drew level with a 2nd try, a sweeping move getting them over the line on 20 minutes.
With half time approaching, Anthony Higgins put the Warriors ahead again, taking a loose ball near the half way we scorched through to score under the posts and then knocked over the extras - 19-12 to the Warriors at the break.
Cefneithin came out for the 2nd half with obvious determination. They looked to move the ball and scored three quick tries in a hectic 7 minutes, one a tremendous long range effort, to turn the game on it's head and turn the score 29-19 in their favour.
As the game entered the last quarter there was a real magic moment. Morgan Foley, making his rugby debut on the Warriors wing, collected the kick off and sprinted down the wing for a breathtaking score.
The Warriors still trailed though, Conor Jones at full back was kept busy but countered well, Keith Marshall had another busy game and Owain Williams went well. They worked hard to create another opportunity and it came through Baker, who got his 2nd about 5 minutes from time which brought the scores level. Kieran McDowal nervously slotted the conversion to edge the Warriors in front.
They secured the result at the death, the pack carrying well and scrum half Gwilym Lewis running the loop off Baker to dot down. Evans kicked the conversion for a slightly flattering scoreline and the Warriors finally had a trophy for the 24/25 cabinet.
For Cefneithin, this fixture is never first and foremost about winning and it was an enjoyable game for all concerned, (get well soon Llyr Jones) but the Warriors will be as pleased with the development as with the result as they continue a busy 6 Nations schedule.
