Llanfair maintain pressure in the race for promotion with a great win over 4th placed Cefn Albion in the last home game on Mount Field yesterday

In a evenly balanced first half, both sides squandered half chances. Llanfair's best chance fell to Max McLaughlin in the 16th minute, when he found himself through down the right channel but left the angle too narrow before unleashing a shot into the side netting.

Cefn Albion took the lead on 39 minutes. A great cross from the left wing found Conner Kendrick inside the area, who brought the ball down brilliantly, before slotting the ball home.

In the second half, Cefn Albion came out strongest and put Llanfair under immense pressure. In the 48th minute, Kershaw found himself in acres of space 12 yards from goal, but squandered his effort wide. Minutes later, Kershaw raced through again but a brave double save by Mark Richards denied the Cefn striker.

Against the run of play, Llanfair equalised on 57 minutes. A well worked move found Jack Orbell on the right, who played in Josh Astley, who turned well and struck a great effort from just inside the area.

Just after the equaliser, Cefn found themselves clear through on goal again but Mark Richards pulled off another good save to deny the striker. Cefn came close again moments later, the left winger cutting in onto his right, before firing a powerful effort just wide of the far post.

Llanfair then punished the visitors for not taking their chances. A left wing free kick by Jake Mann, was headed out by Cefn only for Max McLaughlin to meet the ball on the half volley to fire the ball into the net from 20 yards in the 65th minute.

Only two minutes later, Llanfair were 3-1 up, Max again with his brace. A defensive error by Cefn, led to the defender playing the ball across his own area into Nyasha Mwamuka whose shot was saved, only for Max to pop up with the rebound.

On 79 minutes, Cefn pulled a goal back. After a corner was initially cleared by Llanfair, the 2nd ball was looped into the back post and met by Leighton Kendrick, who forced the ball over the line.

In the 88th minute, Cefn were through again but Mark pulled off another brilliant one on one save.

After 6 agonisingly long injury time minutes, the final whistle finally blew with Llanfair the victors after a great game of football.
