Both teams were due to be in action once again today. The reserve team game was called off late yesterday due to the heavy rainfall - they were due to make the short journey over the hill to close neighbours Llanfyllin Reserves. The first team were due to host Ardal North West League side Rhostyllen. However, with the heavy rainfall the fixture was switched midweek to the 4G pitch at Ysgol Clywedog, Wrexham.
The first team started strongly and Dan Weaver broke through and calmly clipped the ball over the onrushing keeper. The lead was doubled on 20 minutes when Matti Williams netted at the far post after a well worked team move. Llan were well on top and were limiting the hosts with an energetic performance. On 40 minutes, Llan got their third of the afternoon after a Gus Harris cross was powerfully headed in by gaffer Marc Griffiths.
Half time Rhostyllen 0 Llan 3
Llan were now playing into a strong wind and the game was a more even affair. However on the hour mark Llan extended their lead after good work down the right wing saw an excellent James Burgess cross was finished by Marc for his second of the day. Rhostyllen pushed us back for a period and from one of their corners they scored with a strong header. That wasn't the end of the scoring though and Marc Griffiths rolled back the years and latched on to flick on to complete his hat-trick.
Full time score Rhostyllen 1 Llan 5
An excellent outing for the boys in a game that was tighter than the scoreline reflects. We looked sharper and this was another step in our preparations for the season starter away ar Gresford.
We would like to congratulate and thank Rhostyllen in hosting the game following the Safe to Return to Play Protocols. Diolch yn fawr iawn
