Strong second half performance the difference

On Saturday 24th October we made the short journey to play our Spar League Two hosts Four Crosses FC in the first round of the League Cup. Matthew Evans, Barry Morris, Keiran Evans, Hamish Clifton were unavailable and our skipper, Ben White was out injured. But returning to the squad were Chris Aitkin and Gary Meredith. From the off our youthful opponents did not allow us to settle on the ball but we gradually began to find our rhythm, where we started to create openings and it wasn't a surprise when we opened the scoring as Budgie found space from a corner kick to tap in from close range. We didn't have to wait long for Gary to extend our lead, who broke and outpaced the home defence to slot home. But the home side did not shy away from their task with Steve Beckett having an influencial afternoon, they were rewarded for their hard work where from a long through ball, their centre forward, Dale Lloyd scored just before half time to halve the deficit, to the delight of the home crowd. With the second half under way and playing with the wind, we were now applying constant pressure and it wasn't long before Iwan added our third. We were now in full control with our forwards Iwan and Gary going on to score a further two each to complete their hatricks with Wayne completing the scoring, taking us through into the next round. Although in the end we ran out comfortable winners, the home side kept going up to the final whistle and were a credit to their club, Four Crosses FC. No doubt they are heading in the right direction - all the very best of luck to them.

Thanks All for your support.
