Excellent victory at Cymru Alliance Opponents

"Our Central Wales Cup 3rd round opponents were Caersws FC who play in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance League. Although they are currently at the bottom of their league, an excellent away win at Guilsfield would have given them confidence to progress into the 4th round at our expense. However we are on a good run and knew that if we applied ourselves correctly and by being positive, we would certainly be capable of getting a result. Missing from our line-up were Tom Coulson - long term injury, Marc Griffiths, Tom Bailey, knee and ankle injuries, Gary Meredith due to work commitments, Matthew Evans back at university and our skipper, Ben White who was serving a one match suspension. With the game underway we immediately went on the front foot and within the first minute Kieran Evans chased down a through ball, beating their keeper to it. passing the ball into the empty net. Minutes later it could have been two as Iwan Matthews got behind their defence and shot under their advancing keeper, only for the ball to go narrowly wide. Caersws however were not about to let the trophy leave their cabinet without putting up a 'fight'. Having conceded a needless corner on the half hour mark, a decent delivery into our box was partly cleared but the ball fell to their forward, Elliot Jones who smashed home through a crowd of players to level up matters much to the delight of the home supporters. But their joy was short lived as again we went on the attack, with the ball falling to Kieran (MOM) who made no mistake from eight yards out to put us ahead once more. Indeed we could have extended the score-line but for a fine save from their keeper. Half time interval arrived and the players were very relaxed - nothing was needed to be said - as each and everyone of them were winning their own battles out there. With the second half underway and with the playing surface becoming more cut up by the minute, the game was becoming a mid-field battle and even though they had a few half chances, our defence stood firm and on the one occasion when their forward found a bit of space to head the ball that seemed to be goal bound only for our keeper Conner Lee to make a outstanding save by pushing the ball over the bar. We had some decent chances to go further ahead but the ball would not run kindly for Iwan Matthews to get his strikes away - but he was a constant threat, not allowing their defence any time on the ball - and was well supported by Chris Aitkin down the right side. Caersws made changes, by introducing their Player Manager, Graham Evans to try and inspire his side, but found our mid-field to be in a un-charitable mood. We had a great chance to put the game beyond our hosts but this miss proved to be insignificant as the ref, Rob Jenkins blew his whistle to bring this contest to an end. I can definitely say that each 'Llan' player played their part to see us through into the last 16 where we travel to Machynlleth FC. Again what great support - full of voice as usual - very much appreciated by the players. Also the Best of Luck to Caersws FC for the remainder of their season from all at Llanrhaeadr-y-Mochnant FC. Diolch yn Fawr Iawn / Thanks Very Much,
The Management Team
