A tight game was played between two evenly matched sides at Maesydre on Wednesday in the semi final of the Montgomeryshire Cup. Welshpool started the brighter and on 6 minutes they struck the post and then took the lead from the follow-up. Llan were immediately back in the game when an Iain Edmunds strike flew into the far post from 20 yards. Soon a Iwan Matthews strike was comfortably saved hy the home keeper. The game then descended into a midfield battle with no real clear cut chances being created. On 40 minutes Llan should have taken the lead when they were awarded a penalty when Tom Evans was fouled in the box. Unfortunately Khyam Wyton blazed the spot kick over the bar. On the stroke of half time A Welshpool chance went just wide of the post.

Llan played down the slope in the second half and they dominated possession and territory. To be fair though Welshpool kept probing and were keeping Llan honest at the back. Two early chances from Iwan and Tom Bailey both went wide. Good work from Dan Weaver on the hour mark saw the ball flash across the face of goal. Again no clear cut chances were created until 83 minutes. Some good build up play saw Tom Evans score a good team goal. A minute later saw the home keeper make a good save at the feet of Eddy. With their next attack Welshpool equalised after a Jimmy Hayns clearance was charged down and went into an empty net.

Llan started extra time well and a Joe Vaughan shot flew over the bar. Welshpool then created a couple of good chances. A Welshpool free kick brought a good save from Jimmy while on 7 minutes they struck the post. No further clear cut chances were created in the first half of extra time. Welshpool were again in the ascendancy during the second half of extra time without really creating clear cut chances. However Jimmy was once again called into action with 9 minutes remaining making a good save in a 1 on 1 situation.
