"We welcomed Montgomery Town FC up to Llanrhaeadr for the home league match. Missing from the side was our young defender Matthew Evans, Peter Jones, Dan Kelly who starts a three match ban following his harsh sending off last Saturday and Gary Meredith who isn't far away from returning to action following his groin strain. Again we started well, pushing forward at every opportunity, with our opponents strategy was to hit us on the break - and they did come close early on to take the lead but Andrew Green dragged his shot wide of the the far post. We put some decent balls into their box where they defended well, sometimes desperately. Thoughts were going through our minds - was it going to that same old story! Wayne Austin put over the bar from a good position, Iwan Matthews, Chris Aitkin and Tom Evans just missing the target from decent positions and their keeper was playing his part well. For all of our first half possession we went in at half time on level terms. Our changing room mood, to be honest was quite edgy - but we stressed, be positive and that if we keep knocking on Monty's 'door', we will be rewarded. With the second half underway, again it seemed to be taking the same pattern as that of the first. The away side were now tiring, conceding free kicks from some good positions but we could not take full advantage of. We also won numerous corners but again their defence stood firm - well marshalled by the Monty skipper, Mark Probert. Mid-way through the second period we broke out down the left side, with some good team interplay and our left back, Marc Griffiths collected the ball, broke into the left side area and drove the ball from a tight angle into the net, giving us the lead. More chances were now being created and it only seemed to be a matter of time before we'd add to the score line. It certainly did give us that lift. With approximately 15minutes remaining a through ball down the middle allowed Iwan Matthews to beat his marker and outpace their defence and beat the keeper with ease - 2up. No further goals were added and at the final whistle we all welcomed the three points. Was this a good team performance? We think it was solid - we've certainly played far better in the previous games and for all our possession and dominance in those, but not had the points deserved. However there is no point in looking back - what's happened, has. The only way is to look forward. Avery good all round performance by all.
