We welcomed Bow Street AFC up to Llanrhaeadr for the home league match. Missing from the side were Peter Jones, Chris Aitkin, Tom Bailey, Hamish Clifton, Dan Kelly who serves his second of a three match ban and Gary Meredith who we felt wasn't quite ready to return to action. From the off we pushed forward looking to put our opponents under immediate pressure but Bow Street dealt with it very well, indeed they looked very dangerous on the break with their centre forward breaking free only for our keeper, Connor Lee to make an excellent save. But we didn't heed the warning as on the half hour mark they did find the net for the opening goal. We lost Marc Griffiths to a groin strain, with Joe Makinson coming off the bench to play the at left - a very composed display. Endaf Owens, Kieran Evans both missed opportunities but headed over from good positions. On 37 minutes Iwan found space inside their box where he had two consecutive efforts saved but on the rebound, put the third away to level matters. Just before half time we fell behind for the second time - a harmless looking cross from deep fell to their forward who gratefully accepted the chance to take his side in 1 - 2 up at the interval. At half time we decided to change our shape because our first half formation simply wasn't working. However we stressed that we need to be positive. With the second half underway, our lads were on the front foot, pushing the opposition back into their half at it seemed only a matter of time before we'd level things up. On 58minutes and from some excellent work down the left by Wayne Austin where he got to the bye-line and crossed for Kieran Evans to lift the ball over their advancing keeper and to stroke home the equaliser from close range. Confidence was now there for all to see and from a similar position, Iwan Matthews beat his marker for pace and broke free down our left, looked up and picked out Wayne Austin arriving late at the far post to put the ball into the net, giving us the lead for the first time of the afternoon. Our fourth goal soon followed, the chance again fell to Wayne Austin for him to complete his brace. Our first half showing wasn't good enough but this was not down to our players not performing but from a combination of the management team not making the correct calls and to Bow Street AFC, as they were always looking to attack by playing three up top. Indeed, as they did for the second half but we put on a dominant second half display. A game of two halves one might say!!
