Good team performance secures the points

Dave Proctor brought his talented side up to play us at home in this Spar League One fixture where we fully expected to be hard pushed for a result. However we were near to full strength with the exception of Chris Aitkin who was unable to shake off a stomach bug, Endaf Owens was best man at his friends wedding and Matthew Evans who was starting out on his university adventure. Gary Meredith returned from his injury to take his place in our forward line, Jack Brayne's rib injury had also recovered and our skipper, Ben White had returned from his Texas trip to resume his mid-field duties. From the off we took the game to Rovers where we dominated the half for long periods, creating some decent chances in open play but not able to convert. Centre forward Gary Meredith and his strike partner Iwan Matthews were very unlucky not to open the scoring. Rovers were also unlucky to loose their defender to a nasty looking head injury. However we had to wait until the 44th minute for the break through where we won a corner that was delivered into the danger area by Iwan Matthews for Ben White to rise above the visiting defence, to head in at the near post, to the relief of the home side and our supporters. One up at half time was the least our performance deserved, we all new that we couldn't hold back but had to take it forward into the next 45 minutes. With the second half underway and inside the first minute the ball was played across the visitors box who were unable to deal with it and found Kieran Evans at the far post to lift the ball over their advancing keeper and into the net, to double our lead. Although we were comfortable we still had to be aware of their threat, led by the very talented, Will Pritchard who carried on despite picking up an ankle injury. On the hour mark we put the game to bed, when Ben White broke from mid-field to drive home from 20yards into the bottom right hand corner of their net to claim his second of the match. With still a third of the match remaining, we pushed on for the fourth but weren't able to add to the score line. This was a very good team performance and an excellent three points. It was also very pleasing for our keeper Connor Lee and his defence to keep a clean sheet, their second on the bounce. The Management Team
