Not having played since the 12th December, due to the heavy rainfall that has disrupted Mid Wales Football, our first game of the new year was away against Tywyn Bryncrug FC after passing a mid morning pitch inspection. Missing from our side were Pete Jones, Adam Burgess and captain Ben White. From the off we knew it was going to be heavy going and it didn't take long for the pitch to cut up but both sides got on with the game. We had the better of the early exchanges with chances being created but not taken. However, with 10 minutes on the clock it was the home side who broke the dead-lock, from the penalty spot after our keeper, Connor Lee brought down their forward. We responded well and went in search of the equaliser, and it came in the 35th minute, with a delightful chip from Tom Evans who saw their keeper off his line. Both sides had chances to take the lead but the half ended all square. The second half started as the first half ended with both teams looking to gain the advantage. It was ourselves who did get our noses in front and it came from the penalty spot after Chris Aitkin was brought down by the home keeper and Iwan Matthews stepped up to confidently send the keeper the wrong way. Our third soon followed with some great mid-field approach play down our left that gave Gary Meredith his chance, which he gratefully accepted. However, minutes later we conceded a direct free kick just outside our penalty box. The strike on goal hit our wall and deflected into the opposite side of our net, giving Conner no chance. On 80 minutes it was all square - their defender played a long ball down the middle that was not dealt with and left their forward with a simple tap in. We pushed forward looking for the winner and it arrived in the 85th minute with Iwan reacting first to the loose ball and shot into the net, giving him his brace and putting us 3 - 4 up. The lads saw the remaining minutes out - a very good three points gained in very difficult conditions that puts us on 28 points and keeps us within the top group. All of our 14 players again played their part that shows how important it is to have a good squad. Going forward we are looking Ok but we must definitely tighten up defensively.
On this showing Tywyn Bryncrug FC played far better than their league position states and will surely climb up the table.
Thanks all for your support.
