First game back in the Alliance
By Mel Roberts
Well what a day to remember
After a four year absence Llan were finally back in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance and what a game to return to. Rhyl, one of the title favourites were the visitors to our home for the season, Treflan, Llansantffraid.
The game had to be delayed for 30 minutes due to the length of the grass and the need for it to be cut.
We started strongly and we were hard to break down but also good on the ball. On 12 minutes we took an unexpected lead. Iwan pressured their centre half and won the ball. In turn he lay the ball off to Khyam who crossed for Marc to score form inside the 6 yard box. The crowd went wild. This was no more than the home side deserved. Llan continued to press forward and could have increased their lead soon after, the keeper making a good save from Marc. However there were periods where Rhyl dominated the ball and we needed to defend stoutly. Half time came and we were still leading 1-0.
The second half followed a similar pattern with the visitors having the lion's share of possession, but Llan looking dangerous on the break. Again good chances were created, notably with Iwan having 2 good chances to score, but again the visiting keeper made good saves. There was a worry on the side lines that these missed chances would cost us. For the final quarter the visitors penned us into our half, however the defence held firm with Khyam heading off the line and Connor make a fine save late on. Somehow the referee found 6 minutes of added time but the home side held out for an unexpected win.
This was an outstanding performance from the boys showing great discipline, technique, fitness and commitment.
Well done boys and we now travel to Buckley face one of the other league newcomers.
