A win at last!
A much changed first team get an all important win
The first team hosted Denbigh team at Treflan looking to break a losing streak of 5 games. Due to player unavailability the hosts were forced into several changes. The game was a tight affair with both sides in the ascendancy at different times. Llan played with the strong wind at their back during the first half. A Sam Thomas ball into the box on 5 minutes caused early confusion. Soon after the visitors broke and were thwarted by a good last gasp challenge from Iain Edmunds. A few minutes later a shot from the edge of the box from Denbigh flashed past the post. On 20 minutes Denbigh were again looking dangerous, but Dan Weaver was on hand to clear the ball off the line. Llan were penned in their own half but dug in and on the half hour mark crafted the best chance of the half. Iwan Matthews broke down the left wing and cut the ball back for the on-rushing Joe Vaughan who put the ball wide when well placed. On 33 minutes Iain Edmunds crossed the ball to the far post, Dan Graham headed the ball back across the goal only for the ball to be cleared off the head of Joe. Denbigh then broke and forced Jimmy Hanys into a good save. A tight half with nothing to chose between the two sides.

The second half followed a similar pattern with clear cut chances at a premium. Denbigh struck the outside of the post on 51 minutes with a strike from the edge of the box. Llan soon went upfield and a Marc Griffiths cross was well dealt with by the keeper. On 58 minutes Llan were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Iwan's strike was palmed to safety by the home keeper. On 65 minutes a good spell of pressure from Llan resulted in Joe Vaughan putting the ball over the bar. Then on 68 minutes the all important goal was scored. Good work from Tom Evans down the right saw him put a good ball into the box. A great first touch from Iwan gave him the time and space to calmly finish to put the home side ahead. Llan were had their noses in front and reverted to a more defensive style. However they were well organised and made it difficult for the visitors to break them down. Denbigh couldn't play through Llan so eventually reverted to the long ball, which Khyam Wyton, Tom Bailey and Jimmy Hayns dealt with comfortably. So without too many scares Llan held out for their first league of 2019. With a much changed side all must be complimented for the way they stuck together and worked hard for each other.
