Loss in the final minute
Llan hosted Holyhead on Saturday looking to do the double over their opponents from the island. The strong wind made conditions difficult for both sides. During the first half the game was a tight affair. Jimmy Hayns was called into action on 6 minutes and produced a good save. On the 15 minute mark captain Joe Vaughan made a strong run and cross from the left that evaded all Llan attackers. Soon after Marc Griffiths was clean through but a covering Holyhead defender made an excellent last ditch tackle to deflect the ball for a corner. Holyhead then went upfield and struck the outside the post with a strike from the edge of the box. After 30 minutes an Iain Edmunds inswinging corner was cleared off the line and the follow up from Joe went over the bar. Jimmy was then called into 2 smart saves in the final minutes to keep the scoreline at 0-0 going into the break.

The second half followed a similar fashion with clear cut chances at a minimum. On 55 minutes Khyam Wytton crossed the ball to Marc Griffiths, who's shot was saved by the visiting keeper. Probably the chance of the game came on 64 minutes when a Matthew Evans ball to Khyam was mis-controlled at the vital moment. The game was very much a midfield battle then for the remainder of the game. A couple of half chances for Llan were put wide of the target by Marc and Matt. With the game seemingly going to peter out into a goalless draw the visitors were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. The centre forward calmly placed the ball in the bottom corner to send the visitors into raptures. There was no time for Llan to try and get back into the game.

A disappointing day for the boys and one that got away. The flu that seems to be going around the area certainly didn't do us any favours - not that were using it as an excuse. I'm sure that the squad will regroup during the week and be back on it for the visit of Holywell next Saturday.
