Lochar let a lead slip to lose out to Wigtown

In a game switched from Trammondford Park due to the heavy rain that fell, Lochar entertained Wigtown at the NWCC this afternoon hoping their luck could change and get some points on the board. This never went to plan as the away side went back along the A75 with the 3 points after a 3-2 victory.
In a change of personnel for Thistle Laurie Johnstone took the GK jersey. It really was a case of de ja vu for large parts of the game. Lochar started the game on the front foot pressing up high and there high press got joy 5 minutes in when Alex Maxwell and Ross Woodward combined to nick the ball from the Wigtown midfielder and Maxwell’s pass played Brodie Turner through on goal and his well struck shot cannoned off the inside of the post and into the net. Lochar continued to press to try and get further in front and were unlucky not to extend there lead on 20 minutes through Liam Robertson but his shot was well saved by the visiting keeper. Lochar finished the half looking comfortable at the back and well on top but just lacked that spark in the final 3rd.
It was Thistle who were quick out the traps again in the 2nd half and were very unlucky not to double there lead when Greig Goodwin’s sweet left foot strike came crashing off the crossbar. The bit of luck seemed to give the Bladnoch side a lift and they worked there way back into the game and drew level when again this season Lochar failed to deal with a corner which resulted in the defence slow to react as the ball fell to the Wigtown attacker to head home at the far post. It was de ja vu some 10 minutes later on 70 minutes when another corner wasn't dealt with and the striker pounced to give the away side the lead. The lead however was short lived as Thistle drew level within 2 minutes when a corner was nodded home by captain Steven Scott although there were dubious calls that Islam Kadyrov got the last touch. With 10 minutes to go the dangerous Blair Dougan took the ball a run and cut inside and fired a curling effort past the diving Johnstone to give his side the lead again which ended up holding onto to claim the 3 points in a game that could have went either way in the end. Disappointing as yet again we take the lead in a game but yet again we fail to deal with set pieces and yet again we concede 3 goals. Derby game versus Heston next Saturday as we look to get a bit of luck going our way and get us back on track.
