Club History

The Pumas were born in 1998 when a bunch of players (Ges Laker, Tim & Bob Moorehouse, Steve “Rooster” Coburn and Rich Jones were sat around in the Sir Joseph Paxton pub talking rugby. They had been playing for another local side and decided that it was time to start something new…
Rooster who was the landlord of the pub and Rich Jones put some money up to buy the kit and to get the team started however at this point the team still didn’t have a name. Suggestions were Paxton Panthers, Titchfield Terriers, Park Gate Pirates however on account of the cost of the lettering the Pumas name was selected.
In the first season (98/99) we played friendly games all season and won probably 50% of our games but always having a good time. The captain for this season was Ges Laker. The second season (99/00) was captained by Chris Ward (our own rocket scientist) and again friendlies which we faired better, winning 75% of our games.
We were then asked to compete in Hampshire 3 by Hampshire RFU, a challenge the boys readily accepted.
Our third season (00/01) saw Rich Jones as captain and we finished 7th in the league (2nd to bottom). Our fourth season (01/02) saw Rich Jones captain the side again. This was a fantastic season, finishing 2nd in the league and only losing on points difference.
Since then the team has gone on to compete in Hampshire 2 and in 14/15 the Pumas won the league only losing one game all season and were promoted to Hampshire 1.

But we were soon relegated due to coaching changes and now reside in Hampshire 2 again. However, the club continues to grow and now run 2 full senior sides playing great competative rugby.

George Winch is now the Chairman with Rich Jones elevated to President. Contact either George or Rich for more details.
