A 5 try haul from their opening Hants Div 2 match was all Head Coach Al Palmer could wish for “we were patient and took a lot of pressure early on but then got into our stride with some great tries”.
It was the visitors who opened up the score with a try from their No9 darting between the defence following 20mins of total Romsey pressure. They then added a penalty and the Pumas found themselves 0-10 down. But as the half went on the Pumas slowly got hold of the ball and started to run better phases which allowed winger Sean Nuttall to score out wide and go in at HT 5-10.
In the 2nd half the Pumas opened the tap with 2 tries from James Campbell the second was a great chip by fly-half and man of the match Lewis Crowley, the ball gathered by Centre Robson Kashora who punched his way through and offload to Campbell.
Tom O’Grady picked up a score following a well worked lineout as the pack started to dominate and Robbie Connell added more points with conversions and a penalty.
Good defensive work by skipper Joel Stocker limited Romsey's attacking capability out wide and it was good to see returning players Tom O'Grady, Chris Kitson, Tom Palmer, Robson Kashora and Kent Streek back in action. With debutants Stuart Miller, Matt John and Lee Smith turnout in Puma colours.
But Nick Destefano got the last and best score following a great scrum and heal on the twenty two. Lewis again ran the move and fed Robson who put winger Stuart Miller away only to be tackled short of the line after he offloaded to Nick following round from scrum half who scored under the posts.
Chairman George Winch said “this was a great opening game with good rugby played and great support from side lines”.
