Everything was set for Loddiswell's first home game of the season, the pitch looked in prime condition and the players, in their new warm up tops sponsored by T J Roofing, were eagerly awaiting kick-off. However, after a pressing start from Lodd's it was the visitors, Tedburn St Mary, that took the lead on 9 minutes.
This put Lodds on the back foot for a while as they came to terms with going behind. Slowly they started to take a grip of the game again and on 20 minutes Louis Brace took advantage of the 'keeper being off his line, to cooly lob the ball into the back of the net from wide on the right. Despite pressure from the home side the score remained 1-1 at half-time.
The second half saw Lodd's once again putting pressure on the Tedburn defence. However, this left the Greens vulnerable to the counter attack and but for the quickness of Ziggy coming off his line, would have seen the visitors take the lead again. This did not deter the Greens as they looked to take the advantage in the Cup tie but it was looking more and more like 'one of those days' - one chance in particular seeing three efforts in one attack somehow not crossing the line.
Then came the sucker punch, on 72 minutes Tedburn took advantage of Lodd's pressure at the other end and broke with a ball over the top that their striker collected and calmly slotted past Ziggy to make it 1-2.
From that point on it was all Loddiswell but Tedburn stubbornly held on to go through to the Second Round.
Out of the Senior Cup but not down beat, the Loddiswell squad know that on another day it would have been a different result, and will now look forward to their first home League game of the season on Saturday against Broadmeadow ST (2:30 KO).
