Ghost Goal of the Season
By Dan Langman
Match Report from your usual DoD
It has been compared to Lampard’s goal against Germany as one of sports greatest injustice but there is so much more to this story.
A lovely sunny day at HOP was the sight as the 2018/19 season begun with a match against Reigate Priory. The team had been well drilled throughout a mixed pre season and were well prepared to start the journey to the league title.
16 brave men took to the battlefield. A bit like the Gibraltar national team, there was a policeman, banker and a teacher making the squad this week but despite the lack of professional players, the performance was of a professional standard.
Marc “The Wandle” Pagels opened his account for the season with a drag flick that was good, but Phil would of done better. Following on from that, PC Adgey smashed home from the top of the D, much to the delight of his 2% ownership on fantasy hockey.
The first half domination continues as Charlie Lester selfishly decided not to pass to Dev before making it 3-0. His delight was clear as he ran back to half way, with a beaming smile shouting “I have myself as captain on fantasy”
The second half started poorly, the Eds defence switching off for a second to allow a goal to be scored by Reigate but this only ignited the fire inside each player in the black team. Ashby’s clearance from a 16 somehow made it through to Chaz at the top of the D who made no mistake of smashing the ball past the outstretched keeper to make it 4-1.
After that nothing else happened in the game. No one got close to scoring and the umpires made some fantastic decisions.
It was a great start to the season.
Long live the promotion battle!!
P.s: there was a moment of pure genius, absolute class. A moment that would of been talked about for years to come, shown as a demonstration video in every hockey lesson. But we won’t talk about that.
Next week is Old Georgians. A team I hate as they always beat us, but not this time, this time we will go and we will win!
