2. CLUB HISTORY



Longbenton Football Club is a Newcastle based football team formed in 2008. The club have competed in the Northern Football Alliance League since 2012 and previously the Tyneside Amateur League since 2009. The club is a registered members of the Northumberland Football Association.
The Charnwood in Longbenton were the clubs first sponsors in the Season 2008/9 and the team was known as Longbenton Charnwood. After one year the Charnwood withdrew it’s sponsorship due to a brewery takeover, the club looked doomed. However, the Black Bull on Whitley Road were asked if they would like to back the club and they agreed, agreeing to pay for the clubs kit. Longbenton F.C were affiliated with the Northumberland F.A in December 2008
The clubs first major sponsorship deal was agreed in June 2009, for the season 2009/10 with Killingworth based company The Printed Bag Shop sponsoring the teams first home and away kit for their debut season in the Tyneside Amateur League. The clubs first home strips were Red, White and black and the away kit was the same except the main colour was Blue
The Clubs first ever season in the Tyneside Amateur League started on August 8th 2009 with a home defeat to Benfield Chemfica ‘A’ in a 2-1 defeat, with Keelan Meade becoming our first competitive goal scorer. Paul Charlton received the first Man of the Match award for the club. David Short won the golden boot award as top goal scorer for the season with 15 goals.
Longbenton FC finished in 11th position that year.
Second, Season 2010/11, saw Longbenton FC sponsorship change again, this time to their current major sponsors ADS Consultants (UK Ltd) based in Wallsend, owned by Tony Short, the current Club Chairman. Tony Short a licensed FA Coach had been the clubs official FA Coach since 2009. Also this promoted the formation and constitution of the first regular Club Board meetings, which continues to manage the affairs of the club in a correct and due diligent manner.
Brand new strips, now all blue, new players, Longbenton FC showed consistency finished in 11th position again that season
The Season 2011/12, saw the Club move ground to the new impressive Oxford Centre Stadium in Longbenton, moving up. Additionally experienced and local youth team players joined the squad to bolster the club squad. However, much to the Sponsor's dismay the A D S Consultants logo was to be on a ‘Pink ‘ Strip.
In December 2011, the Board make a decision as to the club's permanent colours, they decided on 'Orange and Black', which put an end to the annual colour changes. The 2011/12 season, also produced a vast improvement on the pitch as Longbenton FC finished 3rd in the League and gained promotion to Division 1. They also came runners-up in the Tyneside Amature League Selcray Cup Final beating three 1st Division teams on the way. They lost in the final against the run of play, 3 v 1 to West Jesmond the 1st Div Champions and triple Cup winners.
David Short was awarded Golden Boot with 30 goals in the season and became the first player to reach 50 club goals. Anthony Peel was player of the year. A very sucessfull season after just 3 yearsThe 2012/13 Season, saw a big change in playing standards, instead of going into Div 1 of the Tynside Amature League the club was sucessfull in being accepted into the Northern Football Alliance League Div 2, a higher FA Pyramid level'. The Bulls brought in some new Players, Tom Kindley ex Whitley Bay keeper and Sunderland Trialist, David McDonald also Whitley Bay, Lotanna Adibe from Rutherford and some young Kid Anthony BROWN, the chairman had spotted on a scouting mission,but the squad remained the bulk of the TAL Team.
By December the Bulls were in 3rd Place in the League, in a cup semi final, playing good football and had surprised many. Unfortunately the bad weather came
Kindley & Mcdonald returned to the Northern League, Anthony PEEL last season's player of the year never played after December due to work and the bulls fell away to 8th Top of the League, but still a fantastic effort for their first season in the Northern Alliance League. The 19 year old Anthony BROWN was awarded 'Golden Boot' with 19 goals 3 more than his mentor David SHORT, who racked up 121 Club appearances by end of season.Anthony Brown also won the (a)Player of the year, (b)Players Player of the year (c) Youngest Player of the year. So all in all squad quality improved and 8th Top was a very good achievement to build on
