The Bulls entertained Newcastle Chemfica FC in their third league game of the season, with only 1 point on the board - no pressure. !.
In charge of team selection this week was Steven 'Howey' Hawarth, club coach and also club secretary. Manager Keith Thompson still on Holiday. Howey rang in some changes with a 3-5-2, wing-back formation, in came Adam Scope, Rob Woods, Robert Nolan (making his Debut from Whitby Town) and stephen Armstrong. Again impressive bench with Ben Robson, Chris Sword, Richie Charlton & Tony Woods.
The first half was dominated by the bulls who played some quality passing, movement and possession. It was not long before they took the lead. On 16 mins, MacDonald played a perfect low driven pass through the defence for Robert NOLAN to run onto, one on one with the keeper coolly slotted into the net 1 v 0.
on 22mins a Kane corner found Steven Thompson in the box, heading down the cross for DAVID SHORT to pounce on it in the 6 yrd box and steer it into the net 2 v 0. The goal was SHORT's 100th competitive goal for the club.. Not finished 10 minutes later saw a long ball from SCOPE brought down by Rob Woods, but before a second touch the visitors Center Half rifled it into his own net. 3 v 0.
As normal just before half time a defensive error let the visitors in to score 3 v 1. But still on top the Bulls retaliated 2 minutes before half-time David MacDonald played another long ball for Anth BROWN to beat the offside trap, run on and bury it in the net. 4 v 1.
At 4 v 1 up at half time expectation was to carry on and score more, however, the visitors scored early in the second half as a result of poor marking, 4 v 2. This give Chemfica a new belief as the Bulls took their foot of the pace and the visitors came close enough to pull level.
The Bull rode out the game and with 4 minutes on the clock while the visitors were debating with the referee, David Short took a quick thrown in to let Robert NOLAN away (not offside from thrown in) NOLAN cut inside and drove it past the keeper into the net 5 v 2.
all over, no !, in the last minutes a ball into the box, misunderstanding between defender let the opponents striker in to score. game ended 5 v 3
Robert NOLAN was awarded man of the match.
In summary the Bulls appear to have little problem in scoring 9 in 3 games, but have not only conceded 8 in the same period nearly all of them have been basic defensive errors at crucial times of the game
job for the Manager who is back for the next game.
