League gives the green light to resume after a two-week suspension

"It was decided on a majority of 6-for with two abstention for cricket to resume in the Craven & District Cricket League with immediate effect"
- Peter Foster (League Secretary)

The Craven and District Cricket League has given the go-ahead to resume the current season after a drop in Covid-19 infections in the surrounding area.

The league, postponed for two weeks due to rising Coronavirus cases in parts of Lancashire and West Yorkshire, is to return with immediate effect this weekend, however, League Secretary Peter Foster has warned that it may be suspended again if cases rise.

In an interview with the Keighley News, Foster said: "We suspended play for two weeks because cases of Covid-19 were on the rise in Bradford and very high in Pendle.

"The rates are dropping in both those areas, with the exception of Bradford city centre, where it is still quite high".

When asked why the league chose to make the announcement before a government lockdown review tomorrow, he added:

"We were the only league to suspend play in our area but we did not want to leave a decision until this Friday as it would not give groundsmen enough time to prepare for matches the following day".

Clubs can choose whether to fulfil the remainder of the season and play Sunday matches to compensate for matches lost during the league suspension or drop out for the season in favour of playing club friendlies or inter-club matches.

If a club cannot fulfil a fixture, their opponents can choose to play a friendly against another team without a game. If this is not possible then teams will be awarded a point each as per a rained-off match.

Our ground is in fantastic condition thanks to some excellent work from our groundsmen and we are looking forward to hosting matches there soon.

We are back in action against Eldwick and Gilstead this weekend, where we hope to make it back-to-back wins.
