400 Cherwell League Wickets For Pete Toovey

On a pleasant day at Kimble the second team were optimistic of taking 25 points back to Marlins. Kimble won the toss and batted on a good looking surface, the outfield however was as long as Swamps list of complaints, hardly ideal. Pete Toovey and Huw Robinson opened up and did well. Pete again bowling quickly, second team cricket has not watered down his commitment I can tell you. Pete grabbed a couple of wickets in a long opening spell. Captain Wareham took the ball out of Pete's hands when it would have been easy to keep him going, a wise decision it was too. Yoggy and Macca bowled in tandem and Yoggy did trap a Pip Webb lookalike LBW after Pip had made 80 odd. Rocky, yes Rocky, executed a run out which was a welcome lift to the boys. I came on to bowl and I was struggling with a back injury before I started. I gradually got worse and I personally thank umpires Mike Roberts and our new regular umpire Dave North for allowing an early drinks break for me to take some medication. This is what cricket should be about and well done both umpires, both of whom had exemplary games may I say. I took 3 wickets but it was Pete who came back and blew the tail away, something he has done better than any other bowler in our clubs recent history. Pete ended up with 5 for 44 and in doing so passed 400 Cherwell league wickets for our great club. Only Martin Keable and myself are in this exclusive club and I can vouch for the effort, commitment and indeed pain that has gone into achieving this remarkable feat.Kimble all out for 201. With the bat Jake Shearer joined Swamp to open. This was a very brave move but Jake repaid Wareham by seeing off the new ball. Jake has huge potential and he wants this gig, he really does. Wareham and Toovey fell quickly and new recruit 13 year old Beds county captain Ehsaan Ashraf joined Swamp. My god this is a talent, Ehsaan was a live wire in the field and he can bat too, keep an eye on him, he has it, and plenty of it. Swamp again batted well and his patient 40 was crucial in our effort to eventually gain a draw. Ehsaan and Geoff batted well and pretty much killed off the threat of defeat. We were well short in the end but a draw was a good effort. Thanks to Abigail Marsh for scoring and again congratulations Peter Toovey, here's to 500 mate!
