A Tough Year Over, Time To Look Ahead

Champions elect Brackley were the visitors to the home of cricket this week. LM needed a win to avoid the drop and without key players we were up against it from the moment Brackley won the toss and batted. Brackley have an opening batsman I know well in Adam Wirth as James played with him from a young age in the Bucks set up. In fact I hounded Adam all winter about joining LM this summer and he showed us why on Saturday, blasting a century in quick time..Ironically the other lad I wanted so desperately to join us, Matt Shepherd got a ton on Sunday, also at Marlins..A certain irony here but both are great lads and great players too.

Brackley amassed 362 on another belter at Marlins. Time to say thanks to Chris and his team. The pitches got better and better as the season progressed and his hard work is appreciated by the players and i hope those players rock up to at least one work party!

LM could not chase down this huge total and we were soundly beaten in the end. Relegation is now the reality but we can take positives from the summer. Alex Marsh, Jake Shearer and Tristan Armitage have progressed into the 2s on merit. Swamp has had a solid season with the bat and we had Peter Toovey and Tristan Murrell in the team this summer, they added firepower to our attack, an attack that lost Laura to the 1st XI early doors and Laura has not looked back and she is now a key player in division one for our 1st XI. Peter Toovey did add to our team with the bat also and in the absence of the Great Man we needed Pete and he did deliver. Martin Henderson had a tough start to 2019 but he ended the season in good form and will be an asset to the team if he is bowling as he can. Yogesh and Huw had solid seasons, I was a bit disappointing and in all honesty the last 2-3 weeks were a huge struggle and the season is now a bit too long for me. In Youngy we have the best keeper imaginable at this level and he can still produce with the bat also. Hersh is still looking like a guy who will score runs at any time and he is still a fine gully fielder. Macca, Rocky and Martin Beale too gave their all for the team when called upon. Finally our captain Matthew Wareham, Matt has had a lot to contend with this summer, both on and off the field. He has felt the weight of expectation on his shoulders and he has suffered as a consequence, I know Wareham well and he is a determined character, he will return with the runs against his name his talent warrants, Matt also helps me with club admin tasks and I thank him for his help, he never says no when the club need a bit of energy in finding players or officials. Next year Matt will assist a new skipper as best he can, as we evolve again. I am keen to keep Matt involved and I am grateful he has agreed to support the new boss. Thanks for your effort Matty, you have worked hard for the team and the club. Finally our volunteers..Dave Moulson and Chris Lawson Blake who both stand on the panel for our club and they are vital to LMCC. Our scorers Abigail, Dumpy, Helen and new recruit Neil Shearer, thanks to you all. May I single our Neil who has stepped in and filled a vital hole at the club. Neil is always at work parties etc with Jake and they are now stalwarts of the club, a club that has become stronger again this summer in trying times, may I say. Our teas are the best around and to all who have supplied a tea, thank you. To those who have done more than one, thanks even more, Sipper, Mrs Wareham and Chris & Juliet Lawson Blake have supplied more than one fantastic tea for the squad this summer. If I have missed anyone out, sory but I am grateful as is the club for your contribution, whatever that maybe. UTM
