Longside travelled to play Fraserburgh United in the First round of the Dominos Pizza North Regional cup. The home side took the lead in the 4th minute when a mix up in the Longside defence saw JASON BAIN pass the ball into his own net.
Minutes later a corner from Paterson was met by Milne but his header was blocked before being cleared. West won a free kick in a dangerous position just outside the 18 yard box but he fired his effort wide. Matters got worse for Longside when their keeper Donovan got injured in a clash with one of his own players, Batty went in between the sticks and James Bain came on.
The Broch doubled their lead when BRUCE PATERSON scored with a tremendous strike from outside the box giving Batty no chance. Murison did well when he went clear on the right and his superb strike had keeper Watt beaten but the ball came back off the bar before being cleared.
The home side scored a third when a fine ball split the visitors defence and EWAN MILNE scored with a neat finish.
(Half time : 3-0)
A fine free kick from Hale went right across the Longside goal before being cleared. Longside made a change with Lawrence making way for Taylor and minutes later Murison hobbled off to be replaced by Shewan. West had a half chance for Longside when he was sent clear but his shot was off target.
Another fine strike from Paterson was brilliantly saved by Batty at the expense of a corner which came to nothing. A good move for Longside with Wallace and Taylor involved and the ball was eventually played to James Bain but his shot was blocked before falling kindly for Watt.
Fraserburgh caught the Longside defence out with a swift counter attack but Jason Bain made a fine tackle before the danger was cleared. Substitute Rollo was sent clear for the home side but Jason Bain was on hand again to save his side going further behind.
Wallace and Taylor were causing problems down the Fraserburgh right hand side but the couldn’t get the ball into the penalty box.
Summing up : A poor performance from Longside with too many players having an off day and not playing to the standard expected from the Manager. They will have to pick up their game very quickly for a visit to Stonehaven this Saturday in the McBookie.com First Division. (ko:2.00pm)
