Longside had Aberdeen University as visitors on Saturday in the McBookie.com First Division. The visitors opened the scoring in six minutes when a Walker pass put BLAIR DUTHIE in the clear and he slipped the ball past McKenzie.

University doubled their score in the 20th minute when Ogwuru did well on the left before finding SAM TOUFIQUE in the middle and he scored easily. With 29 minutes gone the home side went further behind when JOSEPH WALKER scored with a low shot into the corner of the net from just outside the box.

A promising move for Longside finished with the ball being cleared for a corner, West’s kick was headed clear.

(Half time : 0-3)

Longside brought on Coutts to replace Mowat at the start of the second half. Ogwuru tried a shot but he didn’t get a good connection and it was saved by McKenzie. Longside were awarded a penalty when West was fouled in the box, DARREN BATTY made no mistake from the spot.

Taylor replaced Webster for Longside. A Wallace free kick found Bain but he could only head the ball straight to Nacef. A long throw was met by Davidson but he headed the ball over the bar. The visitors restored their three goal cushion when SAM TOUFIQUE ran clear to beat McKenzie with a clever finish.

Longside scored a second when DARREN BATTY ran clear to tuck the ball past Nacef. In the 76th minute Davidson went into a challenge with keeper Nacef and when the ball broke loose SCOTT MURISON was first to react and he hammered the ball into the net.

The home side won a few corners in the closing stages and had lots of pressure but they couldn’t find the equaliser.

Summing up : A day to forget for Longside who gave themselves a mountain to climb giving their opponents a three goal start at half time. They showed spirit again to fight back but the margin in the end was just to great. This Saturday they travel to play Sunnybank in the McBookie.com First Division. (ko:2.0pm)
