Longside travelled to play Stonehaven on Saturday to play a McBookie.com First Division match. They made a terrible start by conceding a goal in the 2nd minute, Fenby got clear on the right and his pass into the middle was converted by CALUM WATSON.

West did well when he cut in from the left before he was dispossessed but the ball eventually landed to Davidson and his cross into the middle went narrowly wide. The home side replied when Morrice and Watson got clear but Jason Bain made a superb tackle at the expense of a corner which came to nothing.

Duncan in the Hive goal made a mess of a clearance when under pressure from Lawrence but he recovered well to save. Stonehaven were awarded a penalty in 28 minutes when Webster was adjudged to have fouled Anderson in the box, CALUM WATSON made no mistake.

Longside pulled a goal back in 35 minutes when a West ball was neatly played into the path of RYAN WEBSTER by Davidson and he guided it into the corner of the net. A free kick for Longside fell for West and his shot was deflected for a corner, Lawrence’s kick was headed clear by the home defence.

Just before the break Davidson sent Lawrence clear and Duncan came out of his goal to save the striker’s shot. A dangerous free kick fromStephen Robertson was headed clear by Jason Bain. Lawrence did well on the left before finding Davidson on the edge of the box but he fired his shot wide.

(Half time : 2-1)

Stonehaven started the second half well forcing four corners in opening ten minutes and the Longside defence had to do some resolute defending as well as Sinclair in goals making a couple of fine saves to keep the score intact. A free kick at the other end from Davidson was blocked before he fired the rebound narrowly over the bar.

The visitors then forced two corners and from the second from West, Dabiel made a good reaction but his effort struck the post and went out for a goalkick. A good move from Longside saw Davidson send Keith clear on the left and his ball into the middle found Lawrence but he was fouled 25 yards out, he took the free kick himself but his effort was blocked by the wall before being cleared.

Longside made a substitution with Webster making way for James Bain. The home side restored their two goal advantage in 73 minutes when a fine ball into the middle from Thomson was headed home by CALUM WATSON to complete his hat-trick.

Just on time the Longside misery was complete when they were caught on the break and substitute THOMAS BAILLIE scored with a stunning strike from just inside the box.

Summing up : A scoreline that does not do the Longside performance justice, for large parts of the game they caused Stonehaven lots of problems but again we gave ourselves a mountain to climb by conceding unnecessary goals. This Saturday Longside visit Colony Park in the First round of the Quest Engineering Inter Regional cup (ko:2.00pm)
