Longside had Aberdeen University as visitors last Friday under the lights in the McBookie.com First Division. First chance fell to the visitors when McLaren got on the end of a Clark cross but his header was off target.
The home side opened the scoring in the 17th minute when a free kick was headed on by James Bain for JACK DANIEL to score from close range. Two minutes later they were dealt a double blow when Stuart and Tocher both went off injured to be replaced by Jason Bain and McCouaig.
A free kick in a dangerous position from Clark went narrowly over the bar. Dunbar came to the Longside rescue when he made a superb save to deny Clark after he was sent clear by Chilaka. Just on time Chilaka fired a free kick from outside the box but Dunbar saved easily.
(Half time : 1-0)
Dunbar had another fine save minutes into the second half to parry a Ogwuru shot before the ball was scrambled clear. Longside doubled their lead in the 50th minute when LEE LAWRENCE scored with a fine strike from just inside the box from a Taylor pass. Nine minutes later they scored a third when Daniel headed a Lawrence corner goalward JAMES BAIN was there to put it into the back of the net.
University pulled a goal back in 70 minutes when sloppy defending in the Longside defence allowed ROBERT JONES to score from close range. Three minutes later they scored a second when a Clark corner was met by NDUOMA CHILAKA and he made no mistake.
The visitors were awarded a penalty in the 87th minute and CALEB OGWURU gave Dunbar no chance from the spot.
Summing up : In the end a valuable point for Longside against a very strong Aberdeen University side but from 3 nil with twenty minutes to go they should have been able to see the game out. The two changes after twenty minutes didn’t help as the luxury to put on fresh legs at the end was gone.
Longside’s travel to Dufftown this Saturday in the McBookie.com First Division. (ko:1.30pm)
