The difficult windy conditions gave both teams problems as it was nearly impossible to to clear the ball any distance when kicking up hill. Lostwithiel won the toss and decided to kick up hill into the wind in the first half which proved a pivotal decision. Lostwithiel went 1-0 against the run of play when a Graham Rule freekick picked out Ben Wilkinson at the back post who showed the composure to let the ball bounce and then volley into the roof of the net. For the rest of the half the away team were pinned in their own half and were glad to go into the interval only 2-1 behind with freekick from distance caught Billy Davies out giving St Mawgan the lead.
In the 2nd half St Mawgan started brighter and probably should have increased their lead but Lostwithiel equalised through a pin point cross by Dan Carr and a good headed finish by Martyn Jones. A mixup at the back between defence and keeper then let St Mawgan in to go 3-2 ahead but Lostwithiel again equalised through a long shot from debutant, Steve Crumpler that went through a crowd of bodies to nestle in the corner. With 10 minutes to go Lostwithiel pushed for a winner but found the conditions tough again as passes down the hill were consistently overhit, but with only a few minutes to go some good work by Ryan Morcom and Ben Wilkinson down the left produced a cross for James Hutchings to nod into an empty net. A very even game of 2 halves but Lostwithiel hung on to the 4-3 win.
