The U15’s began their 2019/2020 season away at Coalville. Boro’ started the game well, with good competition for the ball and some good tackling. However, a loose Boro’ kick resulted in the first try for the opposition, with the conversion missed.
A trademark Jack Vickers’ tackle forced a knock on from the restart, and the wet conditions caused further handling errors from both sides. Boro’ found themselves on the Coalville try line with a penalty awarded and the quick thinking of Ollie Simpson taking a quick “tap and go” resulted in Boro’s only try of the game. The conversion was missed and this levelled the score at 5-5.
Following some good phases of play with the ball passing along the line, Boro went over for a try, but the Referee deemed the last pass to have gone forward so the try was disallowed. Coalville went on to score their second try of the game following a penalty and some rather lacklustre tackling from Boro. The conversion kick was successful and the half ended 12-5 to the home team.
The conditions in the second half were not much better and more knock on’s from both sides was the order of the day. Despite Boro’s best efforts, Coalville ran away with it in this half, with a further 4 tries score, to take the final score to 38-5. A disappointing first outing of the season.
