The Moes fell to defeat in the final game of what was a short, but successful season

Loughborough Dynamo’s 10-game unbeaten home run and FA Trophy campaign came to an end after a lacklustre 3-1 defeat to Bedford Town.

Dynamo started strongly and opened the scoring through Tristan Matthews, but the visitors responded well with a Danny Setchell stunner and took control of the game with two more goals in the second half.

Bedford should have gone ahead early as Connor Tomlinson found Rene Howe with the whole goal to aim at, but the Eagles striker fluffed his lines as he pushed the ball wide from close range.

The front three of The Moes were all involved in the build-up to the opener, with Alex Steadman eventually squaring the ball to Matthews who coolly slotted home the ball to give the hosts an early lead and finish off a slick passing move.

The game seemed relatively comfortable for Lee Attenborough’s side up until Setchell picked up the ball with space to fire from distance which he did with plenty of venom as the ball went soaring into the top left of Reuben Rabstein’s net.

The visitors had the momentum going into the second half and it showed when left-back Will Summerfield found space in the box and smashed the ball into the net to give Bedford the lead.

Tom Hitchcock added a third from the penalty spot 10 minutes later after goal scorer Summerfield made another darting run into the box and this time was fouled, giving the visitors breathing space in the game.

Overall, it was an unsatisfactory performance for Dynamo, but they did have chances to get back into the game after the third goal went it.

Firstly, Matthews went close to his second after using his pace and skill to cut inside and create space to fire a shot away, which would have found the back of the net were it not for a deflection which guided the ball onto the outside the post.

Nuno Gomes replaced the returning Evan Garnett and he hit the woodwork himself. The forward drove into the penalty area from the right and fired a low, driven shot across goal which rebounded back the way it came off the inside of the left post.

That was all she wrote however in terms of chances as Bedford saw out the game to hand Dynamo their first defeat in for eight games and 10 on home soil.
