The striker makes the move to the ADT Stadium from Stafford Rangers

Loughborough Dynamo are delighted to announce that highly-rated forward Evan Garnett has signed for the Club ahead of the forthcoming season.

The 25-year old joins The Moes from Stafford Rangers and becomes Lee Attenborough’s first summer signing ahead of the 2020/21 campaign. He is also the most recent new addition to the squad since Dynamo's last competitive match - a 3-1 over Ilkeston Town on March 14th.

Garnett came through the Burton Albion Academy, but was released in 2013 after a loan at Hucknall Town, before signing for Worksop Town. After a short stint at The Tigers, and a stay at Ilkeston Town either side of two successful spells at Belper Town, Garnett earned a move to Conference side Kidderminster Harriers in 2016.

However, following a six-month stay in Worcestershire where he made 16 appearances, scoring just once, Garnett signed for fellow Step 2 side Alfreton Town that summer. While at the Reds, the frontman had a loan spell at Buxton, before rejoining Belper for a third time in November 2016.

Upon departing Alfreton at the end of the 16/17 season, he joined Mickleover Sports, and spent two seasons at the Don Amott Arena. Garnett scored an impressive 21 goals under John McGrath with the Derbyshire side, including the goal which saved Sports from relegation to the eighth tier on the final day of 18/19.

He left Mickleover to sign for fellow league rivals Stafford Rangers in July of that year, but struggled to make many first-team appearances with them and also spent some more time with Belper last term.

Dynamo manager Lee Attenborough expressed his delight after getting the deal to bring Garnett to the club over the line.

He said: "Evan [Garnett] is a massive signing for the club. He is a player that myself and Brad [Munn] have kept tabs on for over a season now and to finally get him to the club is fantastic. When I was putting plans in place for the coming season, you envisage your side and how games may play out in a variety on conditions, on different surfaces etc etc and when I look at Evan up front with Karl Demidh, I see good things. As a centre-half who played this level for a good number of years, I can safely say I wouldn't have enjoyed coming up against them two as a pair. I can't imagine they'll give many defensive pairings and easy ride.

“Evan is a handful. Very strong into feet, uses his body well, has pace to burn and a good goalscoring record to go with it in this league and leagues above. He had a cracking record at Belper which earned him a move to Kidderminster a few years ago and has since gone on to play for the likes of Alfreton, Mickleover and more recently Stafford Rangers.

“Timing is everything in football, and when you're working with one of the leagues smaller budgets, we have to make sure we are getting players for the right reasons. Evan is from Derby and the travel time was causing him issues at his previous club. Likewise, he has already played with several of our current lads at previous clubs including Steady [Alex Steadman], Curt Burrows, Will Norcross and a couple of others, so he felt it was a move he wanted to make to ensure he gets his love for football back. I met Evan for over an hour and we just talked a lot about football, our experiences with different managers and the feel of different dressing rooms, what we want from the game and how we do things as a club and a management team. After that meeting, I felt positive we'd nick him, but he had four other clubs in for him who all significantly out bid us financially, so there was always that element of doubt that we'd actually get him over the line.

“I am delighted he's signed and I look forward to providing him with a platform that will hopefully get the best out of him. In the two light sessions we have done in the last couple of weeks he has looked very sharp. He has fit right in and already feels at home with the squad and is looking forward, like we all are, to the start of next season whenever we get the green light.”
