Loughborough Dynamo edged past Frickley Athletic thanks to a Curtis Burrows penalty at the ADT Stadium, in a game where two red cards were shown.

The game took an unexpected turn early on in the game as Tyler Williams was sent off just four minutes in as Karl Demidh looked to break through on goal. The decision ultimately changed the course of the game as the visitors were forced deep into their own half due to being down to ten men.

When asked about the decision which undoubtedly changed the course of the game, manager Lee Attenborough said: "They'll (Frickley) say it was a tangle of legs and it should've been a yellow, but we know the rules we were through on goal so it's a red card. I don't think they can complain about that.”

Captain Rob Norris also weighed in on the decision, agreeing with the referee’s verdict and he also believed that Loughborough “dominated” the game from that point.

The first real chance of the game came for the hosts as Charlie Young received the ball with a body feint to create space on the edge of the box. His shot was destined for the bottom right, however, Thomas Jackson was there to deny him.

Frickley took a while to find their feet in the game being down a man, but when they did Jonathan Margetts found himself in a great position to score his 17th goal of the season, although he was stopped by Jason Alexander who did not have much to do in goal due to the limited amount of chances that the visiting side created.

The visitors continued to frustrate the home side in the second half, but the goal eventually did come for Loughborough from the penalty spot. Curtis Burrows converted it after Alex Steadman was brought down in the box, to send Dynamo on the way to their seventh victory at home this season.

The Moes have made up for their poor away form this season be being a formidable side at home, in fact, Attenborough’s men have picked up 24 of their 28 points this season when playing at the ADT Stadium, which is an indication of how much better a team they are when on home turf this season.

The game ended ten against ten as Luke Thorogood was dismissed with just under ten minutes to go to make it a tense finish. Despite that Loughborough held on for a crucial three points in a highly anticipated game, against opposition who were in the play-offs going into the game, on a run of just one defeat in their last six outings before this one.

Reflecting on the win Attenborough stressed how happy he was with “every single player from start to finish” and how his side limited Frickley too “next to nothing” in terms of clear chances. Norris added to that saying he was happy for everyone at the club.

Despite overturning play-off opposition, Loughborough remain in 14th position level on 28 points with Sheffield F.C. who sit a place above the Moes. Another home fixture awaits Attenborough’s side next Saturday, as Newcastle Town travel to the ADT Stadium.
