Defeat for Dynamo

Loughborough Dynamo were made to pay for a first-half mistake as they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against Spalding United this afternoon.

A Jack Smith strike proved the difference between the two sides in a closely-fought affair at the ADT Stadium.

Lee Attenborough made just one change following the 1-0 victory over Chasetown on New Year’s Day as Will Norcross replaced Alex Steadman.

Spalding started the brighter of the two sides and kept hold of possession well in the opening stages, but it was Dynamo who created the first real chance of the game.

Danny Gordon fizzed a cross in from the left-wing and it was controlled by Norris inside the box who turned, but his snapshot rolled inches past the post.

Karl Demidh tested the palms of ‘keeper Michael Duggan from long-range, but his deflected effort was held at the second attempt.

However, it was the Tulips who took the lead on 32 minutes as a defensive error allowed Smith to run through on-goal and calmly slot the ball past Jay Alexander.

Dynamo almost equalised a minute before the break through Demidh, but his powerful effort flew just wide, as Spalding deservedly led going into half-time.

The Tulips began the second period on the front foot and came close to doubling their advantage when Scott Floyd’s sublime pass found Lewis Brownhill in on-goal, but his driven shot stung the palms of Alexander.

As the half wore on, Dynamo started to mountain some pressure on the visitors’ back-line without really troubling Duggan in the Spalding net.

Curtis Burrows had an opportunity from a free-kick in a dangerous position, but his low attempt towards the front post was blocked and cleared.

Kevin Bastos almost added a second for Spalding with just a quarter of an hour to play as a corner fell to the feet of the winger, but his close-range shot was tipped onto the post before Alexander held the rebound.

Dynamo pushed in search of a leveller and had a superb chance to do so in the third minute of added on time through Will Norcross, however, he blazed a volley from a few yards over the bar.

Moments later, the referee blew the final whilst to condemn the Moes to a first defeat of 2020 and only a third league loss on home soil this season.
