Draw overshadowed by a serious injury to Glossop player

The spoils were shared at the ADT Stadium in a game overshadowed by a serious injury to Glossop North End player, Papis Touray.

Both teams faced a battle with the elements to start the game, with the wind and rain keeping the game at a stalemate in the opening twenty minutes.

Mark West replaced Will Hartshorne for the visitors inside the opening ten minutes after the midfielder when down injured and was unable to continue, and it was West who set up the opening goal.

The substitute played a lofted pass over the top of the Moes’ backline to find Mohamed Sheriff, who found the bottom right of Jason Alexander’s net with a left-footed volley to put Glossop in front.

They were only ahead for ten minutes, however, with Manuchim Oke-William causing all sorts of problems up top with his physicality and it was his flick-on from a Carl Sibson long ball which found Alex Steadman who arrowed in the equaliser.

Karl Demidh was unavailable for the game due to suspension although Steadman and Oke-William held their own up top in difficult conditions, with the latter going close towards the end of the half as he managed to turn his marker on the penalty spot but eventually lost his footing.

It was that linkup between the two Dynamo frontmen which ensured the scores were level going into the break, on a difficult day to play eye-appeasing football.

It was clear the result of the game would be decided on who could adapt to the adverse conditions quicker, with the chance to win four on the bounce at stake for Lee Attenborough’s men.

The weather eased in the second half however the chances seemed to dry up at both ends, with the first chance of any significance falling to captain Rob Norris who fired a shot just over the bar from 25 yards out.

The Moes’ did well to maintain the majority of the possession in the second period although they were not able to create any clear-cut chances to challenge their opponents.

The game its self came to an unsavoury halt with just over ten minutes to go as Curtis Burrows when flying into a challenge on Papis Touray, who remained on the deck clutching his leg in pain as players from both teams rushed over to check on the forward.

As a result of the injury, Burrows was sent off and the game was temporarily suspended to ensure Touray received the appropriate treatment for what looked to be a serious injury, with paramedics arriving at the scene to deliver him to the nearest hospital.

The teams were sent back to the dressing room while a decision was made on whether to continue the game, with the suspension in playing lasting at least 30 minutes, with the decision being made to continue the game despite the tragic turn of events.

Touray came on as a substitute at half-time for what was his debut for the visitors, which came to an extremely unfortunate end and everyone at Loughborough Dynamo wishes him the swiftest of recoveries.

After the game resumed, Glossop was unable to take advantage of being a man to good, with the injury to their teammate weighing on their minds.

Sibson had the best chance as the ball fell to him in the box from a corner, but he was denied by a wall of defenders in blue shirts, in what was the only chance of note after the restart.

Despite not coming away with all three points, the Moes move up two places into 11th due to over results around the league going their way, and it is now six unbeaten for Attenborough’s men.
