Railway faced Broadlands 2s in a must win match for both teams. From the first pushback, Railway asserted their authority. Laura Gell slipped the ball to Becky Howes, who ran the ball up the wing, rounding the keeper to score in the opening minute.
This set the tone of the match, and Railway set up camp in Broadlands half to build on their very early success.
The pressure was rewarded when Claire Ward found Kiri Phoenix in a crowded area, who calmly slotted the ball under the advancing keeper.
Howes then turned provider, as she once again sped the ball down the wing, to find an awaiting Phoenix who pushed the ball over the line.
After the break, Railway continued where they left off from the first half, and quickly added another goal. Claire Scrivener dribbled the ball past the keeper to make the score 4-0.
Defenders Kelly Martin, Katie Cross, Lily Collins, Jan Tizzard Charlotte Soanes and Sharon Chatfield stood firm and supported the attacking play. Keeper Kerry Burwood was rarely troubled as Broadlands failed to break down Railway’s possession.
The forward line of Howes, Phoenix and Scrivener confidently worked the ball up the ball up the pitch, for Scrivener to add another to her tally.
With Railway now cruising, Scrivener completed her hat-trick, with the home team claiming the points with a convincing win.
