Conditions were perfect when Holt 3s travelled to Gunton Park; Clear day, no wind and a cool air temperature. L&Y put a high score past the visitors but the game wasn’t as easy as the score line suggests… Dan Lewis opened the scoring with a run through a gap in the middle on the opposition players. Followed by Lewis Cook scoring a few moments later putting the score 14-0, conversions from Jack Walker. Holt came back strong using their experienced forwards to drive the ball over from a lineout on the L&Y 5m line, conversion was missed. Twenty minutes in and L&Y score their 3rd try of the half with Kelvin Roberts charging down a clearance kick from Holt and tapping it down behind the posts making the kick easy for Walker. L&Y put three more tries on the board from Stephen Gaines, Ray Hauraki and a second for Dan Lewis. On the stroke of half time Holt scored their second try again from making good use of their forwards pushing their way through. 45-12 at 40 minutes with another 40 to go L&Y wanted to capitalise on the speed and agility on their team to put more points on. Second half was much like the first; L&Y played their game through the backs from the hard work done by the forwards to keep the ball secure. Tries came from Wingers Ben Thompson & Ethan, Fly-Half Walker and another for Roberts. Holt also scored again through great team effort. Ollie Curtis was yellow carded for a high tackle but he ran in 2 tries at the end on the game; including a full pitch sprint that left him a little short of breath making it the final play on the game. Man of the Match was Kelvin Roberts for his 2 tries and numerous tackles and supportive play throughout the game. Thank you to Holt for not making the game easy and even with the score line being stacked against them not taking the pressure on till the final whistle. There will be two games at on with the Development team taking on second in the table Diss 3rds; Drifters are away to GY Broadlands 2nds.
