L&Y Drifts put in top effort against a heavy opposition

Match Report
Norwich lll v L & Y Drifters 7/11/2015

If the Drifters can boast the oldest front row in Norfolk, Norwich lll's can certainly boast the heaviest!!

Drifters travelled to Norwich as the third team representing Lowestoft & Yarmouth RUFC on Saturday with two teams at home this fixture had been switched to the Norwich ground but Drifters still managed to travel with 19 players. The game soon settled into a pattern of the much heavier Norwich pack dominating but fine defence from the Drifters managed to stop them in their tracks.

Norwich gained further advantage after 10 minutes when veteran front row Tex Coleby left the field with a cut to the head.

Despite heroic Lowestoft defence Norwich scored their first try after 25 minutes and with continued pressure scored again after 35. Lowestoft were unlucky not to score after a great break from Sam Dilly, the Norwich defence finally caught up with him and the Lowestoft support play was unable to stay with him.

Half time 12-0

At the start of the second half Norwich managed to find even bigger props, the pressure told and Dave Rose was unable to continue beyond 50 minutes. Norwich were kind enough to supply another front row player but scrums still went uncontested but saw them score the first try in the second half. This worked well for Lowestoft and another fine break from Sam Dilly saw him score and Chris Mason convert. Norwich replied with a well worked try 3 minutes later and from the restart Lowestoft worked the ball through the pack and then out to skipper Chris Mason who scored under the posts and converted. The game opened up but Norwich scored the final try of the game making the score 29-14.

Man of the Match Joe Burnett and special mention to Charlie Hill who made a very impressive debut and Kieran Baldry the smallest man on the park for a text book tackle on the biggest. Despite the result the Drifters and the club can take great heart from this performance.
