Ballymena 2s 0 v Lurgan 2s 0

Saturday 27th February 2016
It continues to be an up and down season for the 2s. Yet another week and we were forced to play with 5 missing from our squad. Hannah McFall was pulled up from the thirds and played the entire game at right back. Hats off to her as she never put a foot wrong the entire match and marked the left wing completely out of the game. Lucille Giffin was on hand and ably assisted the front 3 line up. It was a very physical and difficult encounter. Clara Lennon, Nicky Thompson and Chloe Neville were on their best game and they needed to be. The Ballymena front row were fast and sharp. Orla Thompson, Gemma McBride and Emma Gregson all did a fantastic job in the midfield despite the raft of stick tackles they had to endure. Nikki Quinn at centre forward had a particularly good game. Along with Jenny Morrow and Steph Moffitt the front 3 chased down every ball and kept the game alive. Oral was fantastic at right mid and cut through Ballymena time after time. Jenny was also creating havoc but a combination of ill time tackles and the odd trip prevented her from capitalising on our possession. Lurgan goal keeper VJP was only called upon twice, once she had to drop to smother the shot and the second an outstretched right toe saved the day. The second half was Lurgan’s game but we just couldn’t get the ball to run for us. Nikki Quinn came close and Gemma McBride almost won it with seconds on the clock. A one-to-one with the keeper, she pinged the ball to the side of the diving goalie only to see it hit the post and then hear the final whistle. A nil nil result and 1 point. Many thanks to Pamela Morrow for some excellent umpiring in what at times were very difficult circumstances.
